Use and Care
Time and weather will
shrink caulking and dry it out so that it no longer provides a good
seal against moisture and air inflitration. As a matter of routine
maintenance, it is wise to check the caulking and make repairs as
needed. Caulking compounds and dispenser guns are available at
hardware stores. It is important that you maintain a good barrier to
prevent potential leaks, dry rot, or mildew.
Silicone Caulk
Caulking that
contains silicone will not accept paint but works best where water is
present (for example, where a sink meets a countertop).
Latex Caulk
Latex caulking is
appropriate for an area that requires painting (along the stair
stringer or where a counter top backsplash meets the wall. |
